The Distinction between Palliative and Hospice Care
The most significant concern for those at the transition of their life is care. There are many similarities between palliative care and hospice care, knowing the difference is helpful for everyone involved. While you’ve likely heard of hospice care and while most have a generalized idea of what hospice care services consist of, what many people get confused about is the difference in the types of care provided by hospice services, a large component is “palliative care.”
Palliative care is a way of providing care that brings comfort to the patient. An administered system of palliative care is most commonly offered by hospitals. When used in addition to some traditional care, both palliative and hospice care protocols suggest for all patients to receive care that combines the two types of care. Through one program, medications, daily care, equipment, counseling, and treatment of symptoms are administered.
